WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a $7,115,711 grant to the Maumee Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Transportation Discretionary Grants program. The funds for the project will go toward the replacement of the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge that stretches over the Blanchard River. Brown wrote to the Department of Transportation in support of this project. In 2020, Brown helped secure $1 billion for the RAISE grant program in a spending package.

This funding will help promote infrastructure investments in the region and bolstering economic growth for the surrounding communities,” said Sen. Brown. “Moving forward with this project is a big win for Findlay and I look forward to its completion.”

“The City of Findlay and Hancock County are thrilled that the U.S. Department of Transportation recognizes the criticality of the improvements to the Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge in Downtown Findlay,” said Mayor Muryn. “Projects such as this are not glamorous, but the investment from the RAISE Grant is going to allow construction to be completed that will reduce flood water levels on Main Street by 0.3 ft in a 100-year storm event. This is a significant win for the region, and I am beyond grateful for the federal support, especially from Senators Brown and Portman and Congressman Latta.”

RAISE Discretionary Grant program, provides a unique opportunity for the DOT to invest in road, rail, transit and port projects that promise to achieve national objectives. Previously known as the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) and Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grants, Congress has dedicated nearly $8.9 billion for twelve rounds of National Infrastructure Investments to fund projects that have a significant local or regional impact.
