JERSEY CITY, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) today released the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day:
“On Veterans Day, I join all Americans in expressing our profound gratitude for the immeasurable sacrifices made by those have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Space Force, Coast Guard and Reserve forces. The truth is we are all the direct beneficiaries of generations upon generations of veterans whose courage and selfless service have made the peace and security we enjoy today possible.
“The recent, heartbreaking loss of 13 U.S. servicemembers working to evacuate American citizens, allies and refugees from Afghanistan reminds us just how much we owe those who risk their lives while serving our country. Though we may never be able to repay that debt, it is our responsibility as Americans to do right by our veterans and their families by making sure that they have access to world class health care and mental health services, educational opportunities, affordable housing, good-paying jobs, and all the benefits they earned during their faithful service to our country.
“This Veterans Day, let us remember that honoring our veterans is about more than thanking them for their service – it’s about living up to our commitment to serve those who so selflessly served us.”
