Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., a senior member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear arguments for releasing more public information about the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA):
“The Supreme Court has made the deeply troubling judgment that the public has no right to the secret rulings of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court,” Wyden said. “As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I’ve watched as the Court secretly interpreted laws and the U.S. Constitution and have fought for 15 years for the public release of these opinions. Since the Supreme Court refuses to let the American people see how their own constitutional rights are being interpreted, Congress’s responsibility to conduct aggressive oversight and end secret law is even more important.”
