(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, issued the following statement in response to the passing of Former Secretary of State Colin Powell:
“Colin Powell lived his life in service to the United States – as a soldier, diplomat and public servant. He broke down barriers when he became the first Black U.S. Secretary of State, opening doors and creating overdue opportunity for others to follow in his footsteps,” said Senator Shaheen. “I hope all Americans will join me in honoring his memory and remembering his immense contributions that made our country and world a safer place. His passing is a heartbreaking loss for our nation, and my thoughts are with his family during this tremendously difficult time.”
