WICKLIFFE, OH Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) delivered remarks at the ribbon cutting and deployment of Laketran’s electric bus fleet that he worked to secure funding to make possible. Brown helped secure a federal investment of $9.1 million to support the reconstruction of the Wickliffe Park-n-Ride parking lot, construction of the indoor transit center and charging infrastructure, and new electric buses to be unveiled.

“Laketran is a model for the state and for the country, and it was an honor to work with local leaders to help this community deploy Ohio’s first-ever majority electric bus fleet,” said Sen. Brown. “With the Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan, we are working to get Laketran the resources you need to expand this fleet and expand service even further, and get resources to other communities in Ohio to follow your lead.”

Laketran’s $8.7 million investment in ten zero-emission electric buses is the largest investment in clean transportation for Northeast Ohio. Laketran converted 60% of its transit bus fleet to electric buses and all ten buses are now in operation.

Brown was joined at the event by Wickliffe Fire Chief Jim Powers, President of the Laketran Board of Trustees, Brian Falkowski, Laketran CEO, Ben Capelle, Northeast Ohio Areawide. Coordinating Agency (NOACA), Executive Director, Grace Gallucci, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Diesel Emission Reduction Grants, Administrator, Carolyn Watkins.
