Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that she secured $700,000 to engineer the expansion of the Eastern Trail from Kennebunk through Wells and North Berwick in the draft fiscal year 2022 Transportation Appropriations bill.  Senator Collins is the Ranking Member and lead Republican on the Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee.  The bill, which was officially released by the full Appropriations Committee this afternoon, must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.

“This funding will help engineer the expansion of the Eastern Trail, providing increased transportation and recreational opportunities throughout York County,” said Senator Collins.  “I will continue to champion this funding as the appropriations process moves forward.”

The Eastern Trail is a multi-use 65-mile route that currently connects communities from Kittery to Portland through a network of both off-road and on-road trails.  This funding will help design the expansion for a new 11 mile segment. Employees at Pratt & Whitney and Hussey Seating both benefit from the trail.
