LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) met with veteran entrepreneurs to discuss how her bipartisan Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act would help veterans starting small businesses in underserved communities with startup costs. Rosen met with veterans who have become entrepreneurs through Bunker Labs, a nonprofit that provides community, programs, and courses to help military veterans start and grow successful businesses.

“Nevada is the proud home of over 18,000 veteran-owned small businesses, and it is an honor to represent them in the United States Senate,” said Senator Rosen. “Meeting with local veteran entrepreneurs gave me an opportunity to hear about the challenges they’re facing and discuss how my bipartisan bill to provide tax cuts to veteran-owned small businesses could assist with those startup costs. This commonsense legislation would help give our heroes the resources they need to succeed in civilian life after their service and revitalize underserved communities.”

“This is a great step in boosting the Veteran Entrepreneur Community, said Mario Mitchell, Bunker Labs Lead, Veteran, and Entrepreneur. “Credits like this help the small business community stay afloat even through events such as the pandemic. I never thought entrepreneurship was possible for me because of the lack of support; however; Senator Rosen’s bill would change that and help future veterans to become entrepreneurs and give them the help they need.”

BACKGROUND: Last month, Senator Rosen re-introduced the bipartisan Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act with Jerry Moran (R-KS). The bill would create a new startup tax credit to help veterans who establish small businesses in underserved communities. This commonsense bill would provide veterans starting a small business with a 15% tax credit on the first $50,000 of the startup costs. Congressman Al Lawson (D-FL) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
