Source: United States Senator for Ohio Sherrod Brown
WASHINGTON, DC — In Case You Missed It: An Ironton Tribune editorial endorsed U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) newly introduced legislation, the American Energy Worker Opportunity Act, which would provide critical resources and training opportunities to assist and empower workers whose jobs are affected by the energy industry’s move toward renewable sources.
“As demand for coal decreases, it is imperative that regions that have had their economies centered around it be prepared and given the resources to deal with the impacts to energy. One of these is Appalachia and we were heartened this week to see U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, among those in Congress sponsoring legislation to help workers who may be affected,” wrote the Editorial Board for the Ironton Tribune.
Brown’s legislation would also prioritize employers who plan to hire eligible workers for the clean energy grants created under the Build Back Better plan. It is endorsed by numerous labor unions and groups representing American workers, including the United Steelworkers, United Mine Workers of America, the AFL-CIO, the Utility Workers Union of America, International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), and the BlueGreen Alliance.
