(Washington, DC) – Last night, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced the passage of their resolution designating October 3rd through October 9th as “National Community Policing Week.” The bipartisan resolution recognizes the service and sacrifice of the law enforcement community and underscores the importance of community policing. The resolution encourages civilians, law enforcement agencies and public servants to work together to find solutions to improve public safety, strengthen community relationships and build trust.
“Our communities are stronger when law enforcement officers and citizens develop meaningful local ties and collaborate to improve public safety,” said Senator Shaheen. “This bipartisan resolution recognizes the immense sacrifices police officers make each day while in the line of duty, and highlights the importance of community policing to foster trust and keep our communities safe. I’ll continue to work across the aisle to advance legislation that empowers our police officers with the resources they need to protect and serve Granite State families.”
“I am glad to be part of bipartisan efforts every year to honor community policing, which is so important to building trust between law enforcement and the public.” Senator Hassan said. “I will continue working across the aisle to support our Granite State police officers.”
As Chair of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Shaheen helps secure funding for the Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) programs.
