WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) member, delivered remarks on the Senate floor today condemning President Biden’s withdrawal of U.S. armed forces from Afghanistan earlier this year. The speech was part of the Senate Republican Conference’s weekly floor event.
“The withdrawal was an abject failure, and President Biden bears all of the responsibility,” said Senator Cramer. “The reality is, the President misled the American people to justify his decisions and to downplay his failures. Now the terrorists are emboldened, our allies are questioning the United States’ resolve, and the United States is less safe.”
In his remarks, Senator Cramer outlined areas where President Biden misled the American people on the withdrawal, including:
- The advice he received from senior military officials.
- The size of Afghanistan’s armed forces.
- The Americans left in Afghanistan despite wanting to leave.
- The drone strike carried out in response to ISIS-K killing 13 U.S. service members in a terrorist attack.
The senator concluded by urging Congress to continue investigating the withdrawal and to hold the President accountable for the fallout.
