WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has awarded $739,370 to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency to aid in the development, implementation, and improvement of emergency plans for local communities and to train emergency responders to help communities prepare for a potential hazardous materials transportation incident.
“It is critical that Ohio has the resources and training necessary to transport hazardous materials as safely as possible,” Brown said. “These funds will help ensure that Ohioans’ health and security is protected in any potential situation.”
HMEP grants are part of PHMSA’s comprehensive approach to improving the safe transportation of crude oil and other hazardous material across the country.
