WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) has awarded the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services a $1,058,326 grant through the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program. This will assist the state of Ohio and local governments to develop and implement substance abuse treatment programs in correctional facilities and to create and maintain community-based aftercare services for those transitioning back into their local communities. The state will use the RSAT funds to implement up to three types of programs: residential, jail-based, and aftercare.
“This much needed investment will help the correctional facilities across Ohio to ensure those reintegrating into communities have the tools and resources they need to prevent future substance misuse,” said Brown.
RSAT’s goal is to assist states with developing and implementing residential substance abuse treatment programs within state correctional facilities, as well as within local correctional and detention facilities, in which inmates are incarcerated for a period of time sufficient to permit substance abuse treatment.
