WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, announced that the Senate unanimously passed his resolution with U.S. Senator Mark Warner (Va.) recognizing the 25th anniversary of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
“Over the last 25 years, the NGA and its dedicated team of intelligence professionals have quietly and diligently worked to keep our country safe,” said Blunt. “The vital, timely information they provide helps policy makers, military commanders, first responders, and civil authorities make the informed decisions necessary to ensure a stable and secure future. I appreciate all that the hardworking men and women at the NGA facilities in Missouri and locations across the globe have done, and continue to do, for our nation. I’ll keep working to ensure the agency has the resources it needs to carry out its mission, and I look forward to seeing the New NGA West facility in St. Louis when it’s completed.”
Blunt helped lead efforts to ensure the NGA West facility remained in Missouri. The 2018 government funding bill provided $200 million for construction of the North St. Louis facility, and the land transfer was completed in December 2018. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Blunt worked to secure $291 million in further funding for construction of NGA West as part of the FY2019 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
In November 2019, Blunt attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new NGA West headquarters, and in 2020, Blunt secured $7.95 million for the Jefferson Avenue and 20th Street Revitalization Corridors Project in the City of St. Louis. The funding will be used to provide for a multi-modal approach to manage access, congestion, and mobility in a corridor that is a vital connection to downtown St. Louis and the NGA West headquarters.
The NGA was founded on October 1, 1996. The military and civilian employees serving at the NGA West campus in St. Louis, Mo. and the East campus in Springfield, Va., as well as locations throughout the United States and across the globe, produce crucial mapping, charting, and intelligence products to warfighters, first responders, civil authorities, policy makers, and the maritime and aviation communities.
