WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Budget Committee member, issued the following statement after voting against a continuing resolution (CR) today to fund the government until December 3, 2021:
“Democrats were right to back off their short-sighted threat to shut down the government if Republicans did not help them pass their reckless spending spree by increasing the debt limit. However, the continuing resolution they put forward unnecessarily opens the door to security risks from Afghan asylees by allowing them to obtain REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses despite concerns over insufficient vetting. Their legislation raises serious security concerns and punts on Congress’ responsibility to properly fund the government. I urge my colleagues to support fixing these provisions through the regular appropriations process.”
