(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) issued the following joint statement in response to the Biden administration’s approval of a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of New Hampshire and release of federal assistance to assist communities in Cheshire County impacted by severe storms and flooding in July. Shaheen led a congressional delegation letter to the administration in support of the State’s request for a disaster declaration earlier this month:
“This is welcome news for Granite State families, businesses and municipalities that bore the brunt of the storms and flash flooding over the summer. We appreciate the Biden administration heeding our concerns and swiftly awarding these federal funds, which are urgently needed to address costs that are currently in excess of $3.26 million statewide. These resources will be especially important in our hardest-hit areas in Cheshire County, which will be put to good use in addressing damage incurred on our local infrastructure and reimbursing state agencies for their response efforts amid the severe weather incidents. We look forward to continuing to work with the Biden administration to ensure Granite State communities have the federal assistance they need to rebuild and recover,” said the delegation.
