WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), the highest-ranking Latino in Congress, today announced new roles for current staffers handling Latino Affairs and Outreach. Beginning this week, Fabiola Pagán Meléndez, based in Washington, D.C., will assume the role of Legislative Assistant for Latino Affairs, overseeing all policy and legislative efforts related to Hispanics in the U.S., including Puerto Rico issues. Carlos Barrezueta is now Senior Advisor for Latino Outreach, based in New Jersey. In this new role, he will serve as a key liaison with community organizations to advance the Senator’s priorities on behalf of the strong and growing Latino community across New Jersey.
“I am excited to have Fabiola Pagán take over the Latino Affairs policy portfolio and have Carlos Barrezueta lead our Latino outreach efforts in New Jersey. I look forward to their continued success in our office,” said Sen. Menendez. “From crafting legislation and making sure Latinos are not left behind in this economic recovery to working closely with our community leaders, I am sure their hard work and passion will help empower and enrich the lives of the Latino community in our great state and across the country.”
Pagán Meléndez, a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, is a former Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) policy fellow and has worked with Sen. Menendez as a Legislative Correspondent since 2020. Barrezueta, a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Law School, has worked in higher education across the country and previously served as Dean of the Social Sciences, Business and History Division at Union County College and as the Executive Director of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Initiatives at Miami Dade College before joining the Senator’s staff earlier this year.
