WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today issued the following statement after voting against proceeding to legislation that would suspend the debt limit:
“Democrats had no problem ramming through the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan on a partisan vote, and as inflation rates continue to climb, they are prepared to do the same with the $3.5 trillion tax-and-spend spree. Now is the time for fiscal restraint, but Democrats would rather hold up a routine funding package for government operations to try and force Republicans to authorize borrowing trillions of dollars to pay for their reckless spending. These actions threaten a government shutdown and the financial security of Americans.
“As Americans face higher prices at the gas station and grocery store, I will not support the Democrats’ efforts to suspend the debt limit to facilitate their out-of-control spending that is jeopardizing our economy and hurting American families.”
