Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted to fund the federal government through December 3rd, 2021 and pay the United States’ bills without defaulting on loans by suspending the debt limit through December 16th, 2022.
“Reaching the debt limit is the result of spending Congress has already authorized under both Republican and Democratic control. Defaulting on our bills in the middle of a pandemic would have devastating impacts on American workers and the economy. I voted to raise the debt ceiling through December 16th, 2022 and fund the federal government through December 3rd, 2021 because we have a responsibility to prevent economic catastrophe for the American people on top of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Congress must take action, and I will continue working with my colleagues to avoid a government shutdown and the United States defaulting on our bills.”
