WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate will vote on a short-term government funding bill that would send billions in supplemental recovery assistance to disaster victims in Louisiana. However, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) slammed Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for sabotaging the disaster supplemental by attaching a debt limit increase to fund Democrats reckless tax and spending agenda. Cassidy demanded that Senate Democrats put a clean disaster relief and continuing resolution up for a vote, which will pass with overwhelming bipartisan support.
“Louisiana’s hurricane victims need relief now. Senator Schumer is knowingly dooming this bill to failure by holding our state’s disaster recovery hostage for the Left’s agenda. Congress must pass a clean disaster recovery bill immediately,” said Dr. Cassidy.
Cassidy will speak on the Senate Floor this evening to ask for Unanimous Consent passage of a Continuing Resolution that includes funding for disaster relief, the National Flood Insurance Program, and keeping the government open.
