WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee member, announced today the National Park Service (NPS) has awarded seven grants totaling $1,351,768 for state and local recreation projects in North Dakota.
“The funds announced today will go toward improving playgrounds and expanding parks all across North Dakota,” said Senator Cramer. “This result is why we reformed the Land and Water Conservation Fund program and passed the Great American Outdoors Act: to ensure more investments go to locally-driven projects and our parks and public lands remain a top destination for our constituents.”
The grants are as follows:
- $496,967 to the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District to renovate Sertoma Park.
- $292,773 to the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District to acquire land to expand Lions Park.
- $215,595 to the Grand Forks Park District to replace the infield turf at the Montgomery Field in the Apollo Sports Complex with synthetic turf.
- $137,500 to the Mountrail County Park Board for a new Van Hook Recreation Area West Bathhouse.
- $96,530 to City of Gackle for updates to the Gackle Little Park.
- $69,558 to Turtle Lake-Mercer Public School for playground improvements.
- $42,845 to the City of Mercer for new playground equipment at Mercer Memorial Park.
When he first came to the Senate, Senator Cramer helped pass the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act which was signed into law by President Trump in March 2019. The bill reauthorized and reformed the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) program so states receive at least 40 percent of its funding. Traditionally, the majority of investments were spent on federal land acquisition.
