Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) released the following statement memorializing the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
“The unbreakable resolve and courage of America stood resolute on September 11, 2001. Brave Americans on Flight 93 selflessly sacrificed themselves to save countless lives. Firefighters and first responders risked their lives to run toward danger. Through the tragedy and destruction brought to our shores that day, Americans across the country united in service to support those beside them. As we honor the many lives lost, we remember America’s resilience, which was on full display that fateful day.
“Today, we also remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our country, including the 13 American service members killed in the heinous terror attack in Afghanistan last month. Their commitment and the dedication of all those who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces have kept our homeland safe. Today, we honor their lives, pray for their families, and reaffirm our continued resolve to support and serve our fellow Americans.”
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of September 11th, Senator Toomey attended an event in Somerset County to remember the sacrifices of those on Flight 93. Senator Toomey joined President George W. Bush, former-First Lady Laura Bush, Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Tom Wolf, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Captain of the U.S.S. Somerset John Kurtz and 40 crewmen to signify the 40 individuals on Flight 93, President of the Families of Flight 93 Gordon Felt—brother of Flight 93 passenger Edward Felt, and family members of those who died on Flight 93.
