BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Armed Services and Senate Veterans’ Affairs committees, attended a remembrance ceremony hosted by the North Dakota National Guard (NDNG) yesterday in observance of the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The senator and other officials delivered remarks as part of the ceremony.

“When we say our pledge of allegiance, we say we are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” said Senator Cramer. “The key point is that we’re indivisible. While that does not mean we are unanimous in our views, it does remind us that united we stand, and divided we fall. That fateful day twenty years ago we united as a country, and I pray we hold onto that unity that brings all Americans together.”

The ceremony was held at the Memorial to the Fallen in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) at NDNG headquarters in Bismarck, which commemorates the 29 service members from North Dakota who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the GWOT, 14 of whom served in the NDNG. In his remarks, Senator Cramer discussed the loss of Tyler Orgaard, a Bismarck native killed in the line of duty shortly after Senator Cramer was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Tyler’s father, Jesse Orgaard, spoke at the event as a representative of Gold Star families.

“Not a single day goes by where I don’t think about Tyler,” said Senator Cramer.

The observance was livestreamed at the North Dakota National Guard homepage.
