Nambé, N.M. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:
“Twenty years ago, our nation was profoundly changed by a despicable act of terror that shook Americans to our core. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, took the lives of thousands of innocent Americans, including first responders who were injured and killed in their courageous work to save countless lives. Our nation mourns as one under God – and we will come together to honor the loved ones who were taken from us on that day and the growing list who have died from 9/11 related-illnesses.
“America will never forget the bravery of the men and women in our Armed Forces who were called to serve our country following September 11. I join Americans in paying tribute to the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice and praying for their families and loved ones.
“In the aftermath of September 11, Americans were reminded of our shared and enduring spirit that brought us together in one of our nation’s darkest moments. Through that same spirit, Americans will continue to come together to thank the heroes of that day and remember the resilience of our country.”
