WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) issued the following statement on the 20th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001:
“On this 20th anniversary of 9/11, we honor the memories of the innocent Americans who were murdered in an act of unspeakable evil.
“We grieve for the families and friends who lost loved ones in New York, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In Minnesota, we especially remember our own Tom Burnett, Jr., Max Beilke, Gary Koecheler, and Gordon Aamoth, Jr.
“But we also give thanks for the heroism of our first responders, who 20 years ago made the decision to run towards the danger rather than away. We remember the outpouring of love and support from communities near and far, from people determined to show that there is more that unites us than divides us.
“Today we rededicate ourselves to that spirit of generosity and shared purpose. In the worst of times, we’ve proven that we are resilient. We did not crumble. And as we move forward to the next 20 years, and the 20 years after that, we recommit ourselves to the principles and freedoms that make this country great—that can never be destroyed.
“We will never forget.”
