CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced two awards totaling $37,941 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding will support the Public Housing Operating Funds program for shortfall assistance, which provides financial support to public housing authorities at risk of or experiencing financial shortfalls.
“When West Virginia’s public housing authorities experience funding shortfalls, it puts those who rely on them for safe, affordable housing in jeopardy,” Senator Capito said. “The grants announced today will bring much-needed resources to address financial shortfalls caused by the pandemic in both St. Albans and Weston. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’ll continue to advocate for our state to receive the critical funds it needs to ensure residents have access to the most basic needs, including safe housing.”
“Ensuring our Public Housing Authorities are able to best serve those who need is extremely important, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic that caused many West Virginians to experience additional financial burdens and housing insecurities. I am pleased HUD is investing in housing authorities in St. Albans and Weston so they can continue providing critical assistance to West Virginians,” Senator Manchin said. “Everyone deserves a roof over their heads at night, and I will continue to advocate for funding and resources for affordable housing here in the Mountain State.”
Individual awards listed below:
- $33,478 – Housing Authority of St. Albans
- $4,463 – Housing Authority of Weston
