WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded two grants, totaling $500,000, to Fair Housing Contact Service, Inc. in Akron for fair housing enforcement and outreach.

“More than 50 years after Congress passed the Fair Housing Act, access to housing remains unequal,” said Brown. “These funds will help support Fair Housing Contact Services work to protect Ohioans from housing discrimination and to help victims of discrimination seek justice.”

Fair Housing Contact Service, Inc. in Akron will receive two grants:

  • $125,000 to expand their fair housing education and outreach activities.
  • $375,000 to conduct fair housing investigations and enforcement throughout Summit, Portage, and Medina counties.

The Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) funds fair housing organizations and other nonprofits that assist individuals who believe that they have been victims of housing discrimination. For more information, visit www.HUD.gov.
