WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $375,000 grant to Ohio State Legal Services Association in Columbus for fair housing enforcement.
“More than 50 years after Congress passed the Fair Housing Act, access to housing remains unequal,” said Brown. “These funds will help support Southeastern Ohio Legal Services’ work to protect Ohioans from housing discrimination and to help victims of discrimination seek justice.”
Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS) will utilize the $375,000 grant to increase fair housing services for all federally and state protected classes throughout a 35-county area in rural, southeast Ohio.
The Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) funds fair housing organizations and other nonprofits that assist individuals who believe that they have been victims of housing discrimination. For more information, visit www.HUD.gov.
