FARGO – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee, delivered remarks today in opposition to President Biden’s handling of the recent troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“President Biden’s handling of the withdrawal was a disaster from start to finish, and lives were ruined because of it,” said Senator Cramer. “The Commander-in-Chief is failing to lead as our veterans, service members, and the American people need him to. However we will not let up in our efforts to get Americans and our allies out of Afghanistan safely.”
Senator Cramer denounced the President’s handling of the withdrawal in a statement yesterday and called for increased congressional oversight. Today’s remarks were delivered at a meeting he convened of his Veterans Advisory Board in Fargo, where the senator provided an update on efforts in Congress involving veterans and active duty service members. He also received feedback on the efficacy of veteran services and care in North Dakota.
Recent legislation Senator Cramer has supported and helped advance in this area includes the PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act, which helps the VA connect veterans with service dogs and was recently signed into law. The senator has also helped advance the following bills through the VA committee:
- The WWII Veterans Hospital and Medical Eligibility Act, which would ensure all World War II veterans have access to health care services provided by the VA.
- The GHAPS Act, which would address gaps in veteran health care by ensuring the VA is serving veterans in hard-to-reach places.
- A bill to strengthen the Solid Start program, which reaches out to veterans multiple times after they leave active duty to help connect them to VA programs and benefit
