CINCINNATI, OH – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Co-Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, issued the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval office earlier today.

“As the Co-Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus I am pleased to see that Ukrainian President Zelensky and President Biden met today to help strengthen the important relationship between our two countries. President Zelensky continues to fight corruption and align his country with the US and NATO.

“The announcement of an additional $60 million in security assistance to include Javelin anti-tank missiles for Ukraine is an important step in helping build capacity and capability to counter Russian threats to Ukrainian sovereignty. We can and must do more to help Ukraine.

“I am proud to have led bipartisan efforts in the Senate to increase security assistance for Ukraine over the past several years. And I look forward to working with my colleagues to secure further support for Ukraine in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.”
