LACONIA – Today, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan delivered remarks at Colonial Theatre’s ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony, where attendees celebrated the historic efforts to revitalize the venue. The Senator highlighted how this will support the arts and the local economy.
“I was here back in February when we were all in hard hats. And it was clear then what is even more clear now: The revitalization of this historic theater will help to bring people together and support our economy,” said Senator Hassan. “Theaters play such a special role in our culture and community, creating a place where people from different backgrounds can share in the arts together.”
Senator Hassan is working to provide support to art and cultural venues in New Hampshire. She successfully included bipartisan legislation in the year-end funding bill to allow eligible small employers to both participate in the Paycheck Protection Program and also claim the Employee Retention Tax Credit to help keep workers on payroll and pay for their health care coverage. In addition, Senator Hassan joined the New Hampshire congressional delegation in announcing that New Hampshire venues have started receiving $23.6 million in federal funds through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) Program.
