U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) released the following statement after the U.S-launched airstrike against ISIS-K, the Islamic State affiliate that claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing outside Kabul airport, which killed 13 U.S. service members.
“This week, the world has watched in horror as the situation in Afghanistan continues to escalate. Thirteen American military members were tragically killed in the support of evacuation efforts. America is taking direct and necessary action to retaliate against ISIS-K’s ruthless attack and sending a clear message that we will not tolerate the targeting and killing of Americans and innocent Afghans. I continue to pray for our troops and the many civilians who are caught in the middle of this crisis and look forward to the safe return of all Americans to U.S. soil.” said Senator Murkowski. “I have made clear that I believe the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan was hasty and poorly planned, and stand ready to fully investigate the disastrous failure of this administration’s planning and execution of the evacuation.”
