SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met virtually with Dr. Kenneth Polonsky, President of UChicago Medicine Health System, and Dr. Kunle Odunsi, Director of UChicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, about the University of Chicago’s new Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCMC). On the call, Durbin spoke about federal funding to support the hospital’s mission and the institution’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) designation as a comprehensive cancer center. UCMC is the only academic medical center in Illinois with a facility devoted exclusively to cancer research and treatment.

“When Americans face a health crisis like cancer, they need a team of doctors and specialists they can trust to provide the best treatment possible. I’m proud of the work Dr. Polonsky and Dr. Odunsi are doing to bring the Comprehensive Cancer Center to Illinois and care for families in need,” said Durbin. “With groundbreaking research and medical technology happening here in Illinois, I will continue to advocate for the federal funding and resources to sustain the hospital’s mission.”
