Brown Announces More Than $4 Million for Higher Education Projects Across Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Department of Education (DOE) has awarded a total of $4,148,357 in grants to 11 Ohio educational institutions and groups through the Talent Search program. The program identifies and assists individuals from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education, provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants, and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to complete their postsecondary education.  The 11 awards announced in Ohio are:

  • $277,375 to College Now Greater Cleveland in Cleveland
  • $277,375 to Sinclair Community College in Dayton
  • $355,040 to Educational Partners, Inc. in Dayton
  • $410,700 to Washington State Community College in Marietta
  • $411,070 to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green
  • $539,218 to University of Akron in Akron
  • $333,000 to University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati
  • $712,454 to Cuyahoga Community College District in Cleveland
  • $277,375 to Columbus State Community College in Columbus
  • $277,375  to Sinclair Community College in Dayton
  • $277,375 to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland

“All Ohio students should have the opportunity to succeed in higher education and research,” said Brown. “These federal funds will give students the tools they need to plan for their futures and pursue all the opportunities that come from higher education.”

The DOE’s Talent Search program publishes financial aid opportunities, assists participants with the postsecondary application process, and encourages students to complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds to complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
