TIOGA, N.D. – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Armed Services and Senate Veterans’ Affairs committees, joined a celebration on Sunday for Arnold Postovit’s 100th birthday. Mr. Postovit, one of the few remaining World War II former prisoners of war living in North Dakota, has served as commander of the Dakota North Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War.

“Happy 100th birthday, Arnold Postovit!” Senator Cramer said yesterday. “We honored this POW from World War II with a birthday celebration, where I thanked him for his service and presented him with an American flag that flew over our nation’s Capitol in his honor.”

Postovit served with the Army infantry in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was captured by Germans at Anzio Beach in Italy, on February 6, 1944, and was liberated on April 13, 1945, near Elbe River, Germany. Following his Army discharge, he returned home to farm with his father in White Earth, North Dakota.
