Manchin Announces $7.3 Million To Prevent And Control Infectious Diseases In West Virginia

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $7,326,302 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). This investment is funded by the American Rescue Plan, CARES Act and other annual CDC funding, and will help health departments across West Virginia detect, respond to, control and prevent infectious diseases.

“In the last decade alone, our country has seen an H1N1 flu outbreak, Ebola, Zika, and now the COVID-19 pandemic that has tragically taken the lives of more than 3,000 of our fellow West Virginians. West Virginia must be prepared for any infectious disease threats that come our way, and I am pleased HHS is investing $7.3 million in the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources to help the state detect, respond to and prevent infectious diseases. We must continue this fight against infectious diseases, and I will keep advocating for funding to keep West Virginians healthy and prepared for future threats,” said Senator Manchin.
