“The Build Back Better Budget lowers costs for Americans, cuts taxes for Americans and creates millions of jobs, all while tackling the climate crisis and it is all paid for by the wealthy and corporations paying their fair share.

“For far too long, families, seniors, and young people across New Jersey and America have struggled in the face of soaring child care, education, housing, and health care costs while Republicans in Washington threw billions of dollars at giant corporations, the super-rich, and special interests already living large. Today, Democrats in the United States Senate voted to turn the page with a budget resolution that puts American families first.

“With this vote, we took a stand for America’s middle class and every family across this nation working so hard to join it. We stood up for working parents who need affordable child care in order to get ahead and for families counting on us to extend the poverty-fighting tax cuts we passed earlier this year. We stood up for families who have been priced out of their neighborhoods and pledged long overdue investments in economic opportunity, from safe and sustainable affordable housing to environmental health to universal pre-K.

“We stood up for millions of hardworking undocumented immigrants who deserve a chance to earn citizenship, reach their true potential and grow our economy for the benefit of all Americans. We stood up for young people who deserve a planet that’s healthier than the one they inherited and for communities on the front lines of climate change.

“Our work is not yet done, but after today’s vote I am more optimistic than ever that Democrats will send a budget agreement to President Biden that advances all of these priorities and ultimately, builds a better, fairer, more prosperous economy for the American people to compete, succeed and thrive.

“The American people expect bold and transformative investments in their future, and with this vote we are one step closer to making this a reality.”
