Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, joined his Democratic Committee colleagues in releasing the Build Back Better Budget to invest in American workers and families:
“Today, I was proud to join my Senate Budget colleagues in releasing our plan to dramatically expand job opportunities for every American, cut the costs of everything from prescription drugs to child care, expand services covered by Medicare, extend the new monthly tax cuts for families, and directly confront the climate crisis. It will raise the standard of living for workers, families, seniors, and students, and I’m committed to getting this done.
“From expanding universal early education to making workforce training and college more affordable to reducing prescription drug costs and enabling Medicare to cover dental, hearing, and vision services, the Build Back Better Budget makes a transformational, once-in-a-generation investment in the success of American families. It also builds on the relief we provided in the American Rescue Plan by extending tax cuts for middle class families and lifting millions of Americans out of poverty. And, as the everyday harm from climate change becomes more severe, it will dramatically accelerate our clean-energy future and create millions of home-grown, good-paying, green-energy jobs, including through my proposal to create a national Clean Energy Technology Accelerator and my proposal to help Americans make their homes more energy efficient. We will pay for this with long overdue reforms to prevent big corporations from hiding profits overseas and by ensuring that the super-wealthy pay more to invest in the success of all. The budget plan, combined with the bipartisan infrastructure plan, includes all key elements of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan.
“This bold budget will bring a brighter future to American families, workers and seniors, and I’m determined to pass it in Congress and deliver these investments directly to Marylanders.”
