WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today issued the following statement on the latest climate report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change:
“Today’s climate report shows the very serious situation we are in. We can no longer avoid all effects of climate change, but it’s within our power to avoid tremendous misery if we act on climate change now with our full conviction. As EPW Chairman, I am focused on building on the climate progress we made in the bipartisan infrastructure package. We must take bold, transformative action in our reconciliation package to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop smart policies that will help all communities transition to a safer and cleaner economy. By investing in a clean energy economy, we will create good-paying American jobs and better protect Americans and our economy from the climate perils that face us and generations to come.”
