Brown Announces More Than $200,000 to Improve Airports in Northeast Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded five grants to county governments and universities located in northeast Ohio, totaling $214,000. The funds will go towards operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.

“Ohio airports are vital to supporting travel and commerce in the state,” said Brown. “These investments will help to ensure the safety of Northeast Ohio airports for passengers for years to come.”

DOT funds include:

  • $59,000 grant for Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Lake County Exec Airport.
  • $32,000 grant for Kent State University to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Kent State University Airport.
  • $59,000 grant for Knox County Commissioners & Knox County Airport Authority to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Knox County Airport.
  • $32,000 grant for Portage County Regional Airport Authority & Board of Commissioners to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Portage County Airport.
  • $32,000 grant for Geauga County Airport Authority & Geauga County Commissioners to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Geauga County Airport.

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program.
