U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and an outspoken China hawk, issued the following statement on the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Chinese Communist Party.
“This anniversary is nothing to celebrate. Today marks 100 years of brutal bloodshed and oppression in China on behalf of the CCP and little men like Mao Zedong and Chairman Xi. The CCP’s motto is and has always been the muzzled and dead don’t revolt, and they’ve taken it to heart. They have brought down the iron hammer on freedom seekers, religious and ethnic minorities, political dissidents, and everyday citizens through outright murder, ‘re-education’ torture camps, ‘disappearances’ and forced sterilization. Today, we ought to honor the victims of the CCP’s cruel regime and hold Chairman Xi accountable for the genocide in Xinjiang.”
Background:
Since 1930, hundreds of millions of Chinese citizens have been murdered, disappeared, suffered in ‘re-education camps,’ or tortured at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.
The Party began its bloody reign with the Chinese Civil War that lasted 27 years intermittently and killed nearly 9 million Chinese individuals.
The “Great Leap Forward” killed an estimated 20 to 40 million citizens through famine due to the bad policy of collectivized agriculture that lead to one of the worst man-made disasters in history.
During an attempt to purge capitalist elements from Chinese society in the Cultural Revolution, Mao Zedong killed up to an estimated 20 million citizens. The exact number is unknown.
In 1989, the CCP declared martial law and ordered troops to mow down peaceful protestors in Tiananmen Square. To this day, the death toll is unknown but estimated to be in the thousands.
Brutal forced labor re-education camps, called Laogai, have been operating since 1949. These camps have been responsible for possible tens of thousands of inhumane executions and organ harvesting. An estimated six to eight million people were still working in these forced labor camps in 2013.
Today, the Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide against the Uyghurs. There are an estimated 1 million Uyghurs in detention right now suffering from torture, forced sterilization, rape, and other disgusting practices and an unknown number have died due to these practices.
