WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, issued the following statement regarding a federal court’s dismissal of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) claims against Facebook:
“The FTC should do everything possible to pursue this case. But this ruling also illustrates precisely why our competition laws need to be updated – after decades of binding Supreme Court decisions that have weakened our antitrust policies, we cannot rely on our courts to keep our markets competitive, open, and fair. We urgently need to rejuvenate our antitrust laws to meet the challenges of the modern digital economy. And we need to give the enforcement agencies the resources and legal tools they need to fight these battles.”
