WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Banking Committee, met with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in the senator’s office today to discuss the current state of the economy, the impact fiscal policy decisions have on inflation and economic growth, and the workforce shortages impacting businesses in North Dakota and across the country.

“I appreciate Chairman Powell taking the time to have a productive discussion about America’s economic outlook,” said Senator Cramer. “The economy suffered greatly because of COVID-19, and now as we work to reopen, those same businesses are fighting to stay afloat and successfully reopen their doors while simultaneously trying to fend off the harmful consequences of the Biden Administration’s policies like inflation and workforce shortages. It’s crucial the Federal Reserve understands those issues and is prepared to act appropriately and responsibly, and I look forward to working with the Chairman to ensure it is in a position to do so.”

Through his seat on the Senate Banking Committee, Senator Cramer has worked Chairman Powell on various issues related to the economy and the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, the senator questioned Chairman Powell about issues affecting community banks in North Dakota.
