WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over federal elections and campaign finance law, issued the statement below following her meeting with Texas legislators who blocked an attempt last month to pass a bill rolling back voting rights and continue to fight efforts to pass sweeping new voting restrictions in the state:

“There is no doubt that the freedom to vote is under attack right now, and inaction is not an option. The lengths Texas legislators had to go to to protect the right to vote underscores the importance of passing the reforms in the For the People Act to set basic national standards to make sure all Americans can safely cast their ballots in the way that works best for them, regardless of what state or zip code they live in. We’re in this fight together, and now, it’s time to get critical voting, ethics, and campaign finance reforms passed in the Senate.”
