WASHINGTON – Today, on Flag Day, U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) joined Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) in reintroducing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to prohibit the physical desecration of the American flag.

“A flag worth dying for is a flag worth defending. On Flag Day, we celebrate the American flag and remember the cherished freedoms it symbolizes,” Senator Cramer said earlier today.

Senators Cramer and Daines were joined in introducing the amendment this Congress by Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). Senator Cramer helped introduce this amendment last Congress, when it received the support of then-President Donald Trump.

“While we should always be mindful of First Amendment rights, the American flag signifies the founding principles that countless men and women have given their lives to preserve,” Senator Cramer said at the time. “Adding a Constitutional amendment to protect this symbol of freedom and liberty is not an attack on another Constitutional amendment; rather, it is an affirmation of the unifying principles our nation stands for.”
