CINCINNATI, OH Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) released the following statement on Thanksgiving:

“As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with family, friends, and good food, let’s all take a moment to reflect on our blessings. I am grateful for my family and my friends and my faith – all of which give me strength.

“I am thankful to be an American, where we are blessed with the freedom to pursue our dreams, to worship as we please, and to express our beliefs without threat of persecution.  Our Declaration of Independence explains what makes us special: our rights don’t come from government: we ‘are endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.’

“I am grateful to our Founders for their wisdom and courage.

“On Thanksgiving, I give thanks for the men and women in uniform who keep us safe, especially those Ohioans who are away from home serving our country overseas in the military. It’s difficult to be apart during the holidays and we are thankful for those men and women who are willing to sacrifice to keep us free. We also owe a debt of gratitude to their families.

“One of my blessings is the opportunity to represent you in the United States Senate. I am grateful every day for being given the chance to help Ohio and the country through public service.

“From my family to yours, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.”
