BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcing today it will release over $1 billion in payments beginning June 15, 2021, to qualified producers who suffered losses from 2018 and 2019 natural disasters:
“North Dakota’s producers have suffered significant hardship in recent years, and at a time of extreme drought with soaring input costs and dramatic supply chain disruptions, these funds will provide much-needed relief to help them cover losses caused by events that were out of their control. I am grateful to see progress being made in getting our producers this assistance, and I urge the Agriculture Department to get these payments into the hands of qualified applicants as quickly as possible.”
The payments will go through USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to agricultural producers with approved applications for the Quality Loss Adjustment (QLA) program and those who have already received payments through the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+). Last fall, Senator Cramer urged North Dakota producers to apply for disaster programs made available by USDA.
